The Story That Wouldn’t Let Me Go

The Story That Wouldn’t Let Me Go

There are some stories that you write, and then there are some stories that quietly wait for you.

Beneath the Ceiba Tree has been with me for many years. It has travelled with me through different chapters of my own life, patiently sitting in a folder on my computer, waiting for the moment I was ready to return to it.

When I first wrote the novel, I thought I understood the story I wanted to tell. The characters were there. The mystery was there. The secrets were there.

But something wasn’t quite right.

So, after stepping away from writing for a long time, I did something I never expected to do — I went back to the beginning and rewrote the novel.

Not a few chapters. Not a little edit.

The entire thing.

I changed the structure, deepened the characters, uncovered truths that even I hadn’t fully understood before, and most importantly, I discovered the ending the story was not what it should have been. The one I have written now is the one that had been waiting for me all along.

It’s a strange thing to return to a piece of work after so much time. You are no longer the same person who first wrote it, and that changes the way you see everything — your characters, their choices, their mistakes, and the things they carry.

In many ways, Beneath the Ceiba Tree is a story about how the past never truly leaves us. About secrets, friendship, loyalty and the moments that shape our lives.

Perhaps it’s fitting that the novel itself has had its own journey too.

I am incredibly excited about what comes next. There is still work to be done, but for the first time in a long while, I feel as though this story is exactly what it was always meant to be.

And I can’t wait to share it with you.
